What do we have to do to get married?
There are certain legal requirements, which you will find out when you have a meeting with the minister.
In addition, we have some other things with which we need agreement.
Couples meet 3 times with the minister before the wedding service. It is the norm to meet during business hours, Tuesday to Friday. You should not print invitations before your first meeting. There are various forms to be filled out, and questions to be discussed – the first two questions being; “Why do you want to get married? and ˜Why do you want to get married in a church?
What is this church about?
The United Church of Canada is a denomination that is inclusive and open, that nurtures faith and seeks justice.
The United Church of Hudson is a welcoming congregation with a concern for the individual, the community and the world. We believe that we provide a space where people’s spirits can be nourished, refreshed and strengthened. We are a church family, with our doors open to new people (though we can be a little shy at first too!)
We suggest that you come to meet us at Sunday worship, and find out who we are. This will allow you to know about the church in which you are getting married, and will also give you a sense of our style of worship, which is similar to the style of our wedding services. And we hope that perhaps you will find yourself making our congregation your church home.
What is the difference between the two churches?
There is a 300 seating capacity in Wyman Church and a 65 seating capacity in the Cote St.Charles Church. The Cote Church is a rural chapel, and is well suited to smaller gatherings. There is an electric organ for music. Obviously, the Wyman church can seat many more people. It also has a pipe organ and piano.
What is the service like?
The minister will discuss with you the form of your service. You will have significant input to make to create a service that reflects your life as a couple.
How much does it cost?
The normal fee for a marriage is $650.00, which includes a fee of $200 for the church, $200 for the minister, organist $160, care-taker $50 and church secretary $40. The organist’s fees are augmented, of course, with any additional requests. (See below).
Payment of the total amount is required one week prior to the date of the ceremony. Cash or cheque dated the week preceding the ceremony is acceptable. There will be a $25 fee added on for any appointment missed without notifying the minister.
